For the past few years, the PCMA Annual Meeting has been a great opportunity for the Greater Philadelphia Chapter to learn, network, and bond over a Philadelphia Eagles playoff game that inevitably occurs during the meeting. In 2004, the game caused us to be 45 minutes late to our own chapter dinner off-site in Indianapolis. Well, at least we were all delinquent together--4th and 26, baby. In 2005, I was with a small group of chapter members in Hawaii in desperate search of a football-playing TV at the Hilton Hawaiian Village . Once we found a 15-inch TV raised 8 feet off the ground at the hotel’s fast food joint, we hovered over it protectively and yelled at kids who tried to take our seats. We considered it a great find, because beer was plentiful (though we were only allowed to purchase one at a time—darn those laws in Hawaii!).
In 2006, I am already beginning to think about what we might do, especially because we are in our home city. (I have not yet accepted the fact that the Eagles may not be in the playoffs this year.) However, Sunday nights have now been claimed by the force known as Desperate Housewives. Are you like me? Do you have your TiVo or VCR record it even when you’re home? Do you get together with friends to watch it? Do you wonder when the heck George the Pharmacist is going down?
I digress. The good news is that if you want to get “off campus” after the opening night reception, there are great places right around the convention center where you can get your DH or NFL fix. All you have to do is walk south on 12th Street. At 12th and Locust, you’ll find a great tapas place called Lula. They play Desperate Housewives every Sunday night, and they have some pretty creative martinis to boot. However, if NFL is your thing, can make a left off of 12th onto Walnut Street and there are two options: The Irish Pub or Moriarity's. Moriarity’s is my favorite—love those wings—but their TVs are smaller. Priorities.
Gayle Patterson Adams, CMP

Gayle, you are to be commended for your optimism about the Philadelphia Eagles being in the playoffs this year and giving you and the Philly chapter folks a chance to bond at the TV set. It looks like the PCMA hometown team Chicago Bears will be part of the action, so all PCMA members can take some interest in that! As a Washington Redskins fan, hope springs eternal for me, but it may be an eternity before I can really celebrate. . .
